Silane coupling agents are organosilicon compounds that have two different functional groups, including one that reacts with organic materials and one that reacts with inorganic materials. This unique characteristic enables them to bond organic materials to inorganic materials. The organic functional groups include epoxy, amino, ketimino, vinyl, methacryloxy, acryloxy, mercapto, polysulfido, isocyanato, styryl, as well as other organic groups. There are also different hydrolyzable groups available, including chloro, methoxy, and ethoxy.
When added to adhesives or used as a primer on substrates, SiSiB® silanes may provide dramatic improvement in adhesion by reducing moisture attack at the interface. It will improve moisture resistance, temperature resistance, and chemicals resistance.
When used as a coupling agent, SiSiB® silanes will bind organic polymers to mineral or siliceous fillers, will improve mixing properties, improve bonding of pigment or fillers to resins, and may increase matrix strength. |
